Artist Statement

Wax flowers are now available in many different colours and varieties but the “Geraldton Wax” may be the best known original. Being a local variety and named after my local city it was a flower I had to paint.

Botanical Description

This is an erect shrub 0.5 to 4m high, bearing white or pink flowers in June-November. The species name uncinatum means “hooked” in Latin, in reference to the tips of the leaves. The flowers somewhat resembles those of the tea tree. It grows naturally in a fairly wide band along the coast of the Mid West and Wheatbelt in Western Australia from around Geraldton southwards, hence its common name.
