Golden Grevillea – Tea Towel

$29.95

Artist Statement

This painting came about as the basis for the design for a mural I did for Morawa Senior High School earlier this year. Being the town of Morawa’s floral emblem and a flower I have never painted (nor ever seen painted before) I love to be able to celebrate our local flora in this way as well as to educate both myself and the public that see my work about the many varieties of native flowers we have in Western Australia – especially the lesser known varieties.

Botanical Description

This is a small shrub from 0.5 to 1 metre high and up to 3 metres across. Leaves are up to 50 mm long by 25 mm wide and deeply lobed. Spectacular yellow to deep orange flower clusters of “toothbrush” configuration occur at the ends of the branches in winter to spring.

It is found in Eastern Wheatbelt of Western Australia, usually in isolated colonies in sandy soil, flowering from April till October.

Like most grevilleas, its flowers attract birds, like this New Holland Honeyeater.

Helen Ansell Tea Towel – also available as a Square Paper Print, Square Canvas Print, Rectangle Canvas Print, and Rectangle Paper Print.
