Description
“This is one of my oldest paintings still available as a print but which is still hugely popular – I actually painted it before I was married and it is signed as Helen Miller. This was one of my very first paintings where I explored my love of colour and shapes through a painting of an Australian Native Flower. Painted upon my return from 3 years living in Scotland where I returned to live in a remote Aboriginal Community, Ululla, 75km south west of Wiluna.” Helen Ansell
This is an upright single-stemmed bushy shrub or small tree 2.4-4.5m (8-10ft) tall, commonly known as ‘finger hakea’. The species is widespread, growing on the Central Coast, South Coast, and Tablelands of New South Wales and the Central Western Slopes as well as North-Eastern Victoria. Its habitats include slopes, ridges and along watercourses on sandstone in communities of tall closely growing trees. The unusual pink variety is shown here.
