The final piece in my set of three Night Bird collection – the Tawny Frogmouth!

I have had so many people come up to me in the Gallery while I’ve been painting this piece with personal stories of what this beautiful bird means to them and how much they love it!

To my surprise I recently discovered that Tawny’s are not actually Owls even though they are nocturnal and carnivorous – instead they are a close relative of the Nightjar Family. They are experts at camouflage through to a combination of stretched bodies, flattened and coloured feathers and narrowing their eyelids to obscure their yellow eyes.

I remember once we rescued some baby Tawnys that fell out of their nest (they are the cutest thing EVER like little fluffy toys!) We handed them to our local Bird Rescue Centre where it was well looked after!
