Galah Tree is an original painting by Helen Ansell featuring a tree filled with galahs, one of Australia’s most recognisable cockatoos, with their distinctive pink and grey plumage creating the appearance of flowers amongst the branches. The idea came from Helen’s father, Don, who often told her that a tree filled with pink galahs reminded him of a native version of a magnolia tree in bloom.
Don had encouraged Helen to paint the scene for years, and the idea remained in the back of her mind until she finally brought it to life. Galah Tree became part of A Walk in the Wildflowers – A Homage to My Father and the Country We Love and is particularly personal to Helen because it is a painting her dad had specifically wanted her to create.
