Own a Helen Ansell Original Artwork
After the Rains is a deeply personal original painting inspired by Helen’s childhood at Ululla Station and the extraordinary transformation of the desert landscape following rain.
After long periods of dry weather, rain would bring the country suddenly to life. Frogs emerged from beneath the sand, goannas moved across the landscape leaving fresh tracks in the mud, and bush tomatoes, grasses and wildflowers appeared across the country. For Helen, these changes were part of growing up at Ululla and learning to notice the remarkable details of the landscape around her.
Created for Helen’s 2026 exhibition, A Walk in the Wildflowers – A Homage to My Father and the Country We Love, the painting draws on those memories of exploring the country with her father, Don Miller. It reflects both the resilience of Western Australia’s arid landscape and the sense of discovery that Helen experienced there as a child.
