Description
“I love the colour combination of pink and orange – nature has such an amazing way of just knowing which colours work together and pop! These are teeny tiny flowers in real life but for this painting I deliberately wanted to blow them up larger than life for the viewer to notice the intricate details.” Helen Ansell
The full common name is the Heart-leaf Flame Pea. It occurs naturally in the forests on the tip of south-western Australia in gravelly or loamy soils. When in flower this small scrambling shrub is conspicuous with its sets of orange-red or yellow pea flowers with separate flowers attached by short equal stalks at equal distances along a central stem up to 12 cm long, i.e in a typical ‘pea flower’ formation. The plant flowers in spring. The Noongar people, who are traditional owners of that area, know the plant as Kaly.
