Millstream Chichester National Park is rightly described as an oasis in the desert with Jirndawurrunha Pool and its water lilies, melaleucas, and palm trees an absolute highlight. The Park is situated 150km south-east of Karratha in Western Australia’s Pilbara region; nestled within the Chichester Range’s rugged and beautiful ancient chocolate brown rocks. It also contains billabongs on the Fortescue River. Water-lilies have long been a source of artistic inspiration around the world and Helen Ansell comments, “Here I wanted to capture an Australian rendition of this beautiful flowering plant.” Local Aboriginal people eat the bulbs as bush tucker. This piece won “Best work by a non-Indigenous Artist” in the Hedland Art Awards in 2011.
