Thanksgiving Flowers I is the first of three paintings inspired by the native flower arrangement from Don’s funeral Thanksgiving service.
Helen has always loved dried Australian flower arrangements, and after her father’s funeral she kept the bouquet as the flowers dried. Rather than being a recreation of the arrangement, Thanksgiving Flowers I is Helen’s interpretation of those flowers through her own distinctive style. The same bouquet became the starting point for three separate original works in this exhibition.
The original dried arrangement is also part of A Walk in the Wildflowers, displayed alongside the paintings it inspired. It creates a direct connection between the object Helen kept after her father’s funeral and the new body of work that grew from it.
Created for Helen’s 2026 exhibition, A Walk in the Wildflowers – A Homage to My Father and the Country We Love, Thanksgiving Flowers I is one of three works in the Thanksgiving Flowers series.
