Galah Trees Fine Art Paper Print

Galah Tree is one of the most personal works from Helen Ansell’s A Walk in the Wildflowers collection.

The idea for the painting came from Helen’s father, Don, who had been encouraging her to paint a tree filled with galahs for years. He loved the way the birds’ distinctive pink plumage transformed the branches, telling Helen that he thought they looked like a native version of a magnolia tree in bloom. The idea stayed in Helen’s mind for years before she finally brought it to life in Galah Tree.

Galahs (Eolophus roseicapilla) are one of Australia’s most recognisable cockatoos, known for their rose-pink breast and face, pale pink crest and grey wings. Often gathering in large, sociable flocks, their abundance of pink amongst the branches provided the inspiration for the image Don had imagined.

Printed on archival-quality 220gsm fine art paper, this reproduction captures the colour and detail of Helen’s original artwork and is available in a range of sizes.

“Dad was a really big inspiration for my paintings and was always coming up with ideas for things he thought I should paint. For years he kept telling me I should paint all these galahs in a tree because he thought they looked like a native version of a magnolia tree with its pink flowers.

Sometimes I have paintings sitting in my mind for years before I actually paint them, and this was one of those ideas. Dad brought it up so many times that I knew it was a painting I eventually had to do. Galah Tree is the painting Dad had been asking me to make for years.”
