The original Magpies of Melbourne brought together black-and-white magpies with banksias, wattle, gum blossoms and flowering Australian natives against a rich blue background. The birds sit among the branches as though they’re calling and singing to one another – an idea Helen has returned to for this new 30 x 30cm piece.
This mini original focuses on just two of the warbling magpies from that larger world, creating a simpler and more intimate companion to the original painting.
